Wheat import from India resumes through Hili land port after four years

Wheat import from India has resumed in Bangladesh through Hili land port in Dinajpur after four years. This activity resumed today, Sunday (April 12) with the import of a total of 116 tons of wheat in 3 trucks after the ban was lifted. M/s Mifa International, the importer of the land port, imported this wheat from India. Traders and workers of the port have been relieved as import activities have resumed after a long time.
Meanwhile, due to the increase in wheat prices in the domestic market, the Indian government announced a ban on wheat exports on May 13, 2022. As a result, wheat import from India through various land ports of the country, including Hili land port, has completely stopped. With the resumption of imports, traders have expressed hope that regular wheat imports will continue as per the demand of the domestic market, which will help keep the domestic market stable.
