Vaccination program starts at 599 DNCC centers to prevent measles and rubella in children
To prevent measles and rubella in children, the ‘Emergency Measles-Rubella Vaccination Program 2026’ has been started at a total of 558 permanent and temporary centers in 10 areas of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC). The program, which will be conducted from April 12 to May 11, 2026, aims to vaccinate about 5 lakh children.
The Measles-Rubella Vaccination Program 2026 was officially inaugurated in the Karail area of the capital on Sunday (April 12) morning. State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr. M. A. Muhith was present as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony. Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan was present as the special guest at the ceremony.
Speaking as the chief guest, State Minister for Health Dr. M. A. Muhith said that every child aged 6 months to 5 years must be vaccinated. He said that the vaccination program has started in 17 upazilas of the country and later in 4 city corporations. The nationwide measles vaccination program will start from the 20th.
Speaking as a special guest at the event, the DNCC administrator said that there is a plan to convert the Mohakhali DNCC Covid Hospital into a general hospital, so that better healthcare can be provided to the city residents using the existing infrastructure.
Under this program, all children aged 6 months to 5 years will be vaccinated against measles and rubella. For this purpose, 54 permanent vaccination centers and 502 temporary vaccination centers have been set up in the DNCC area. In addition, the vaccination program will be conducted through 35 evening centers and 8 Friday centers. A total of 594 vaccination workers, 650 volunteers and 203 supervisors will be responsible for implementing this program.
All guardians of Dhaka North City Corporation have been specially requested to bring their children aged 6 months to 5 years to the designated vaccination centers and get vaccinated. The event was presided over by DNCC Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury. Also present at the event were UNICEF Vaccination Health Manager Dr. Riyad Mahmud, UNICEF Bangladesh Representative Rana Flowers, World Health Organization Representative Dr. Rajesh Narwal, and Prime Minister’s Office Research Officer Md. Abdus Sattar Patwari.
