Armed Forces are not the property of any individual, party or family: Prime Minister

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said that the armed forces are not the property of any individual, party or family. He urged the armed forces to always maintain a high ideological position without compromising on the issue of professionalism. He said this at the Armed Forces Court at Dhaka Cantonment today, Sunday (April 12). The Prime Minister said that after the Peelkhana incident, various activities were tried to make the army controversial during our rule. The government is determined to ensure justice for this murder.
He said, “We want an armed force that external forces respect and the people of the country trust. The armed forces must always maintain a high ideological position without compromising on the issue of professionalism. May the flame of patriotism that President Ziaur Rahman lit at every level of the armed forces to protect the dignity of the state never be extinguished.” Tarique Rahman also said that the role of the armed forces in the July Movement has given hope to the people. He said, if the armed forces are strong and united, no one can ever defeat Bangladesh. He said, the current government wants to further strengthen the armed forces. The Prime Minister also conveyed the message that the current government will properly implement every clause of the then signed July Charter. Tarique Rahman mentioned that the BNP government had taken the Bangladesh Army to a unique height by participating in the UN peacekeeping mission. He said, the only sacred responsibility of the army is to protect the country’s independence and sovereignty.
