Life imprisonment for wife murder in Kushtia
A court has sentenced husband Abdul Awal (42) to life imprisonment in the sensational Shahana Khatun murder case at the Islamic University Police Station in Kushtia. He has also been fined Tk 50,000 and will have to serve another year of rigorous imprisonment in default.
This Wednesday (April 8) afternoon, Judge Enayet Kabir Sarkar of the Kushtia District and Sessions Judge’s Court announced the verdict in a crowded courtroom in the presence of the accused. The convicted Abdul Awal is the son of Abdul Karim Biswas of Kundupara village of Harinarayanpur in Kushtia Sadar Upazila.
According to the case details, on the morning of January 29, 2020, Abdul Awal had an argument with his wife and mother of three children Shahana Khatun alias Jahanara Khatun (30) over an extramarital affair. When Shahana protested her husband’s illicit affair, Awal got angry and stabbed her in front of everyone with a sharp razor.
Shahana died on the spot. When she tried to stop him, Awal also injured her own mother. The locals arrested the murderer Awal and handed him over to the police. On the day of the murder, the elder brother of the deceased Shahana, Shafiuddin, filed a murder case at the AB police station. The court gave this verdict after a long hearing and taking testimony.
