Locals have recovered 13 slaughtered and one live horse from an abandoned house in Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj. The incident took place on Wednesday (April 8) morning in Anarpura village of Bhaberchar union of the upazila.
Local resident Hasan Mia said, we have been hearing for a long time that sick horses are being slaughtered. Today, when we went to the spot, some terrorist groups saw us and fled with weapons. Later, we entered the abandoned house and saw 13 slaughtered horses. The matter has been reported to the administration.
Another eyewitness, Nazmul Hossain, said that every Sunday and Wednesday late at night, a car used to come in front of this abandoned house. In the morning, blood and bones were seen lying there. Later, it was learned that this gang mainly slaughtered horses, filled the meat in sacks and supplied it as beef to various hotels. To destroy evidence, they would bury the skin, bones and intestines in holes.
Upazila Executive Officer Md. Mahmudul Hasan said that he came to know about the horse slaughter in Anarpura through local people and journalist colleagues. According to the Animal Slaughter and Meat Quality Control Act, 2011, there is no scope for horse slaughter, but since no accused was found at the scene, the matter is not acceptable in the mobile court.
