CNG pumps closed in Sunamganj, blockade in protest

CNG drivers have blocked the road by planting trees in protest of the indefinite closure of all CNG pumps in Sunamganj. This has caused long traffic jams on the Sunamganj-Sylhet road and commuters on this road are suffering.
The drivers started the blockade program from 10:30 am today, Thursday (April 2). Upon receiving the information, the police came to the spot and asked them to move off the road, but they did not comply. However, the police said that an attempt will be made to resolve the issue through discussions at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in the afternoon.
The blocking drivers alleged that the pump owners have stopped gas supply since morning without any prior announcement or notification. As a result, they are unable to transport passengers due to lack of gas. This has caused problems for people traveling to various destinations.
The drivers also said that they often face various problems at the pumps. They are not getting gas as the pumps are suddenly closed. The closure of passenger transport has stopped their income and livelihood, which has made them worried about their families. They were forced to block the road after they could not get gas despite standing in long queues since morning.
Passengers said that CNG-powered autorickshaws are not plying due to gas shortage. Only those that have gas are plying in limited numbers. Meanwhile, the employee in charge of the pump said that the pump was closed on the instructions of the owner.
