Launch sinks at Charmonai Ghat in Barisal

A passenger launch sank in Charmonai, Barisal during the annual mahfil. The incident occurred on Wednesday (April 1) afternoon in Charmonai Union of Barisal Sadar Upazila.
Locals said that the sunken MV Manik-4 launch had left Munshiganj on Tuesday (March 31) night for the Charmonai Mahfil. The launch was at the ghat after disembarking passengers in the early morning. When the water receded due to low tide, the rear part of the launch sank and the launch sank by noon. However, no casualties were reported as there was no one inside at that time. However, it is known that several belongings of the devotees kept inside the launch were damaged.
Those involved in the launch and witnesses believe that the accident could have happened when the water receded as the launch was not tied tightly. KM Shariatullah, the media coordinator of Charmonai Mahfil, confirmed the matter. It is worth noting that this three-day annual gathering began with an inaugural address at noon today, Wednesday (April 1).
