Rape victim’s suicide: Main accused arrested

RAB-14 has arrested Rubel Mia (40) the main accused in the suicide of a rape victim in Phulpur, Mymensingh. Within just 24 hours of this sensational incident, RAB has brought the absconding accused under the law. The victim’s family and local people have been relieved by this.
The arrest was confirmed at a press conference organized at the Mymensingh RAB-14 office on Wednesday (April 1) afternoon. Earlier, he was arrested in a raid in Rambhadrapur area of ​​Phulpur upazila around 8 pm on Tuesday. The arrested Rubel Mia is a resident of Boro Shuni village of Bhaitkandi union of the upazila and is the father of two children.
According to the case report and local sources, on the night of March 29 (Sunday), the girl’s grandmother found Rubel and the girl in an objectionable condition in an abandoned place near her house. Sensing the grandmother’s presence, Rubel fled. After some time, the girl returned home and told her grandmother that Rubel had finished everything. Fearing public shame, she had already consumed the pesticide.
The girl died in the early hours of March 30 while undergoing treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. After the autopsy, her relatives protested in front of Phulpur Police Station with her body. They demanded speedy trial and hanging of accused Rubel. That night, the girl’s father filed a case at Phulpur Police Station. Immediately after the case was filed, law enforcement agencies started activities to arrest the accused.
Additional Superintendent of Police of RAB-14 Md. Shamsuzzaman said, the incident is very sad and has created a huge sensation in the area. We were able to arrest the main accused before 24 hours of the case. Further legal action is under way against him. The family of the deceased girl expressed satisfaction over the arrest of the main accused. Locals say that criminals like Rubel should be given exemplary punishment so that no more lives are lost in the future.
