Content creator Fahim jailed in murder case
A court has ordered the jailing of controversial content creator RS Fahim Chowdhury in a murder case of Dhaka’s Gulshan police station during the July movement. The court has fixed Tuesday for hearing his bail application.
After the hearing today (March 30), Dhaka’s Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam ordered him to be sent to jail. The officer-in-charge (OC) of Gulshan police station presented the accused in court and requested to keep him in jail.
Earlier, Fahim was arrested by ordinary people and a group of students from the Mirpur Zoo area of the capital on Sunday afternoon. He was then handed over to the capital’s Shah Ali police station. Later, he was handed over to Gulshan police station. After that, he was shown arrested in a murder case. The case states that during the July Movement, thousands of students and ordinary people were marching in front of Shahjadpur Subastu Market in Gulshan on July 19, 2024. On the orders of the then government and top leaders of the ruling party, leaders and activists of Awami League and its affiliated organizations and members of law enforcement agencies opened indiscriminate fire on the protesters to suppress the movement. At that time, Md. Imran (30) was seriously injured in the firing of unknown assailants while expressing solidarity with the protesters on his way home from work. He was later taken to United Hospital in Gulshan, where he died at 7:05 pm that day while undergoing treatment. A case was filed with Gulshan Police Station in April 2025 in this incident.
