Teenager beaten to death in dispute over 50 taka, 1 arrested

A teenager named Imran Hossain (16) has been accused of being beaten to death in Jagannathpur, Sunamganj, for paying 50 taka less for an autorickshaw. The incident took place on Tuesday (March 24) at around 7:30 pm at Badshah Mia’s garage in the Syedpur (Ishankona) area of ​​the upazila. He died at around 8 am at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital on Friday (March 27).
The deceased Imran Hossain is the son of Ali Hossain of Bhabanipur village in Dohalia union of Doarabazar upazila of Sunamganj. He and his family had been living as tenants in the house of Hasan Chairman in Syedpur village for the past 8-9 years.
According to local and police sources, on the night of the incident, when Badshah Mia tried to reduce the autorickshaw fare in his garage by 50 taka, the garage owner Badshah and his associate Zakir became angry. At one point, they brutally beat Imran with the GI pipe of a rickshaw, mugur and betel nut tree branches. When Imran fell to the ground in a serious condition, the people around him rescued him and first took him to the Jagannathpur Upazila Health Complex. Later, when his condition deteriorated, the doctor on duty sent him to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical Hospital for better treatment. He died yesterday morning after being treated there for four days.
In this incident, the Jagannathpur police station arrested the accused Zakir (35) from his own house at around 12:30 pm yesterday. However, the main accused Badshah Mia is still absconding. Zakir is the son of the deceased Abdur Roop of Syedpur (Ishankona) area.
Local UP member Md. Laku Mia said, “I warned him repeatedly during the incident, but they brutally beat the teenager. He fell to the ground after being repeatedly hit by the attackers.” The deceased’s uncle, Akid Ali, has demanded a fair trial for the brutal murder and exemplary punishment for those involved. Jagannathpur Police Station OC Shafiqul Islam said, “The deceased’s father has filed a complaint with the police station in this incident. The police have already arrested a person named Zakir. The body has been sent to the morgue of Sunamganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy. The police operation is continuing to arrest the other accused in this case.”
