President and Prime Minister pay tribute at National Memorial on Independence Day
On the occasion of the great Independence and National Day, President Md. Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid their deepest respects to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War at the National Memorial in Savar. They reached the National Memorial at 6 am on Thursday (March 26) and paid tribute to the brave freedom fighters and observed a moment of silence to pay their humble respects to the memory of the brave martyrs.
At this time, a special contingent of the Army, Navy and Air Force gave the state salute. Later, the Prime Minister paid tribute along with members of the Council of Ministers. After paying tribute at the National Memorial in Savar, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will pay tribute to the tombs of martyred President Ziaur Rahman Bir Uttam and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia by 7 am on his way back to Dhaka. After that, the President and the Prime Minister will be present at the ‘parade ceremony’ at the National Parade Ground at 9:45 am.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has given a message to the countrymen on the occasion of the great Independence Day. In the message, he extended his heartfelt greetings and congratulations to all the people of Bangladesh, including all Bangladeshis living abroad, on the occasion of the great Independence and National Day and wrote, March 26 is a glorious and historic day in our national life. On this day, I remember with deep respect those best sons of the nation, in exchange for whose sacrifices we got an independent and sovereign Bangladesh. At the same time, I remember with deep gratitude those brave freedom fighters, oppressed mothers, sisters and all the martyrs who participated in the great Liberation War and pray for the forgiveness of the souls of all the martyrs.
