FIFA sued over ‘skyscraping’ World Cup ticket prices
Is the World Cup a luxury for the rich? The European football supporters’ alliance ‘Football Supporters Europe’ has sued FIFA over the ‘skyscraping’ prices of tickets for the 2026 World Cup. The formal complaint was filed on Tuesday (March 24).
The final ticket price has increased more than 7 times compared to the Qatar World Cup. The European supporters’ alliance FSE has alleged that FIFA is abusing its monopoly power. The price of a ticket in the resale market has reached 15.8 million taka! Even general gallery tickets are not available. Angry fans are calling it ‘unreasonable and opaque’.
FIFA’s argument is ‘dynamic pricing’, but fans claim that a pocket-slitting festival is going on in the name of ticket sales. As a result, FIFA is embroiled in a legal battle before the games start in Mexico-America-Canada. It is worth noting that this year’s FIFA World Cup will begin on June 11 and end on July 19. For the first time, 48 teams will participate in the tournament (in the main phase).
