Two parties exchange fire in front of BNP office in Lakshmipur, pedestrian shot

A chase and gunfire broke out between two parties in Chandraganj, Lakshmipur due to a dispute over dominance. In this, a pedestrian named Abdur Rahim (54) was shot and a person named Saiful Islam Manik (20) was beaten and injured. The incident took place at 9 pm on Tuesday (March 24) in front of the BNP office in Chandraganj Union at the entrance of Afzal Road in Chandraganj Paschim Bazar, Sadar Upazila.
The shot Abdur Rahim is the son of Shamsul Haque of Sheikhpur village and is a tree trader by profession, and the injured Manik is the son of Mizanur Rahman of Purba Jafarpur village in Charshahi Union, Sadar Upazila.
According to eyewitnesses and local sources, a clash over dominance took place between Deopara and Sheikhpur villages of Chandraganj Union last Monday (March 23). Yesterday, another gunfight broke out between the two parties in the same incident. It was led by Rakib Patwari of Deopara village and a man named Mitul of Sheikhpur village.
During the incident, a pedestrian named Abdur Rahim was shot in the left leg and Mitul’s companion Manik was beaten with a chain and injured. Later, locals rescued them and admitted them to the hospital.
Salam Sourav, a doctor at Laxmipur Sadar Hospital, said that Abdur Rahim suffered a gunshot wound to his left leg. After primary treatment, he was sent to Noakhali General Hospital. Manik is undergoing treatment at the hospital. Chandraganj Police Station OC Morshed Alam said that both parties fled before the police reached the spot.
