Green signal for energy imports from India – State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid

The State Minister for Foreign Affairs said that Bangladesh has received a green signal for its interest in importing energy from neighboring India to address the global energy crisis caused by the war situation in the Middle East. He said this in response to questions from journalists at a briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday (March 24) afternoon.
Meanwhile, Dhaka has not yet received consular access from India to interrogate Faisal Karim and Alamgir Hossain, accused in the Sharif Osman Hadi murder case who were arrested in India. However, the government hopes to get access soon. And bringing them back to the country for trial is the government’s priority, said State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid.
In response to a separate question, he said that discussions have been held with the country’s High Commissioner on bringing back those who have fled to India, including Sheikh Hasina.
In response to another question, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs said that all missions are working to provide round-the-clock security to Bangladeshis in the Middle East situation. More than 2,000 Bangladeshis in Iran are safe in this country. If they want to return, the government will take action.
