Comilla-9 (Laksam-Manoharganj) BNP MP Abul Kalam has announced a reward of Tk 50,000 for the arrest of the accused in the robbery case that took the expatriate family hostage and will bear the medical expenses if the robber is injured while trying to catch him. He made this announcement atthe house of expatriate Nasir Uddin of Bhaupur village in Saraspur union of Manoharganj upazila on Friday (March 13) night. Local leaders and activists of the party were present at the time.
According to local and case sources, expatriate Nasir Uddin, a resident of Bhaupur village, was going to his in-laws’ village Kismat village in an auto-rickshaw around 10 pm on March 8. When the auto-rickshaw reached in front of Ali Mia’s house in Bhaupur village, Saddam Hossain, son of Syed Ahmed, and Ilias, son of Ruhul Amin, who were coming on a motorcycle, stopped the auto-rickshaw. At that time, Saddam and Ilyas lifted expatriate Nasir from the autorickshaw, held him by the throat with a knife and took him to the roof of the nearby Bhaupur Dakshinpara Noorani Talimul Madrasa. There, they beat him and tried to find out how much money he had. At that time, Nasir, exhausted by their torture, told Saddam and Ilyas that his money was at his in-laws’ house. Later, at around 10:45 pm, they took Nasir hostage and took him to his father-in-law Haji Hashem’s house. At that time, Saddam and Ilyas were joined by Shah Alam Prakash Md. Salauddin (32), son of Shamsul Haque, Md. Russel (35), son of Rawab Mia, and Kamal Hossain (35), son of the deceased Sadek, from the same village. Then they organized themselves and took everyone in Nasir’s in-laws’ house hostage at gunpoint. They then held a knife to Nasir’s one-year-old son Nafis’ throat and threatened to kill him and looted his wife’s used gold ornaments worth Tk 5,70,000 and about 4 bhoris.
The next day, the villagers gathered together and demanded justice for the terrorists and informed local MP Abul Kalam, who directed the OC of Manoharganj police station to take immediate action.
Later, on Monday (March 9), the victim Nasir Uddin filed a case with the police station, naming 5 people. After filing the case, the police conducted a raid and arrested two people named Saddam and Shah Alam (Salauddin) and recovered Tk 1,55,000 along with the looted four bhoris of gold. Manoharganj police station OC Shahinur Islam said that two accused named Saddam Hossain and Shah Alam have been arrested in the robbery case.
