UPDF worker shot dead
Apan Tripura (28), a worker of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF), was shot dead in Panchhari, Khagrachari. He was shot dead in the Barokona area of Panchhari Sadar Union on Saturday (March 7) morning. The deceased, Apan, was a resident of Padminipara village in Moratila area of Ultachhari Union No. 5.
Around 11:30 am, an armed group of 15-20 people from the Santu Group (Parbatya Chittagong Jana Sanghati Samiti) entered the Barokona area of Panchhari Sadar Union and started firing. At that time, UPDF member Apan Tripura alias Sangram encountered them while on his way to organizational work. The terrorists allegedly shot him dead at close range.
In a statement, Angya Marma described the killing as cowardly and heinous, saying, “The Santu group has been carrying out various terrorist activities including murder and kidnapping in Panchhari for a long time. But no effective action is being taken against them. He demanded immediate legal action against the killers of Apan Tripura.
However, when asked about this, Sajeeb Chakma, Central Joint Information and Publicity Secretary of the Parbatya Chittagong Jana Samhati Samiti, said, “No member of the Jana Samhati Samiti has anything to do with this incident. As far as we have found, an armed group of the UPDF got involved in a gunfight with the opponent. Some of them were shot. It is baseless and motivated to blame the Jana Samhati Samiti for this.”
Khagrachari Superintendent of Police Mirza Sayem Mahmud said, “The truth of the incident has been found. However, the body has not been recovered yet. A police team has gone to the spot to recover the body. “It takes time to recover the body because it is a remote area.”
