Iran attacks $300 million THAAD air defense system in Jordan
Iran’s war strategy is in the news after satellite images were released showing the destruction of a $300 million US radar system in Jordan. This is considered the biggest success of the IRGC in the ongoing war.
Iran’s target for breaking the defense belt in the Middle East is the US missile system THAAD radar system. The effectiveness of this strategy has been revealed in satellite images. Iran has destroyed the radar of this state-of-the-art defense system in Jordan. The radar of the $1 billion THAAD defense system costs $300 million. And therefore it is seen as Iran’s biggest success in the war.
The THAAD system is mainly used to destroy ballistic missiles. Currently, the United States has only eight THAAD systems in different parts of the world. Apart from Jordan, there are two in the United Arab Emirates and one in Saudi Arabia. Each battery requires 90 soldiers to operate. There are six truck-mounted launchers and 48 interceptors. Each interceptor missile of the THAAD system, built by Lockheed Martin, costs $13 million to manufacture.
Iran has tried to destroy THAAD radars in Jordan and other countries in the Middle East. A CNN analysis found that Iran fired missiles at two locations in the United Arab Emirates targeting similar radars. It is not clear whether the radars were damaged. Tehran also attacked a THAAD radar at Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia.
US defenses are already being tested to counter Iran’s frequent ballistic missile and drone attacks. Analysts say that if the radar of the discussed THAAD system is destroyed, the pressure on the Americans will increase significantly. Therefore, it is being called Iran’s biggest success in the ongoing war.
