Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s 20th day in jail
Today, Saturday (March 7), marks the 20th day in jail for Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman. He was arrested on this day in 2007 during the then army-backed caretaker government.
After his arrest, Tarique Rahman was remanded in multiple cases. His spine was broken due to torture by law enforcement agencies. After spending about 18 months in jail, he was released on bail on September 3, 2008.
Following the 1/11 government, the fascist Awami League government also filed hundreds of cases against Tarique Rahman across the country. BNP leaders have said that the cases filed against Tarique Rahman were politically motivated. BNP has taken up various programs to mark the day.
