Second wife stabbed to death by husband in Sreepur

A second wife was tragically murdered by her husband in Kewa village of Sreepur upazila of Gazipur. Police recovered the body of Ruma Akter (35) from the Upazila Health Complex on Friday night.
It is learnt that the deceased Ruma Akter is the daughter of Saheb Ali of Joynagar village of Netrokona district. Accused Ruma’s husband Ratan Mia (40) is the son of Maram Ali of the same area. Ratan and Ruma worked in a garment factory in a rented house in Kewa village of the upazila.
Khodeja, the deceased’s sister’s daughter, who is an eyewitness, said, “Yesterday, Friday (March 6) afternoon, I went with my aunt to get clothes from my uncle’s house. While returning from there, my uncle kept calling my aunt from behind. Since they were arguing, my uncle kept coming back. At that time, my uncle took a knife and said, I made this to kill you. He immediately ran and stabbed his aunt from behind. The aunt fell to the ground. My uncle twisted the knife and confirmed her death. Blood started coming out. My uncle then ran away. We rescued her and brought her to the Upazila Health Complex. The doctor declared her dead.”
Meanwhile, relatives said that Ratan Mia has a first wife and children. They live in a village house. Ruma is his second wife. Ratan forced his wife to divorce her first husband by threatening to kill the children. Ratan married Ruma, a mother of three children, 4 years ago. A few days after the wedding, they started quarreling. They used to quarrel constantly. The helpless Ruma worked in a garment factory. Her sons rented a separate house. Ratan stabbed Ruma to death due to a family dispute.
The deceased’s son Ashiq said, “To save us, my mother divorced my previous father. In a helpless state, she was forced to marry that man. He often beat my mother. In a helpless state, we 3 brothers and my mother lived in a separate rented house. Today, that man stabbed my mother to death.”
Dr. Md. Al Nafiz, a doctor at the emergency department of the Upazila Health Complex, said, “At 4:50 pm, the relatives brought the woman dead to the hospital. We immediately informed the police. Police recovered the woman’s body from the hospital at night.’
Sripur Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Lal Chan said that after receiving information, the body of the deceased Ruma was recovered from the Upazila Health Complex around 9 pm. Accused Ratan Mia is absconding. A drive is underway to arrest him. The body has been sent to Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital in Gazipur for autopsy. A case is under process in this regard.
