4 Jamaat and 1 BNP candidate in High Court challenging election results

Four more Jamaat candidates and one BNP candidate have filed an application in the High Court challenging the election results in the 13th National Parliament election. Today, Tuesday (March 3), a single High Court bench of Justice Md. Zakir Hossain will hear these applications.
The candidates are – Jamaat candidate from Narayanganj-2 constituency Md. Ilias Molla, Jamaat candidate from Narayanganj-3 constituency Iqbal Hossain Bhuiyan, Jamaat candidate from Lalmonirhat-2 constituency Md. Firoz Haider, Jamaat candidate from Lalmonirhat-1 constituency Anwarul Islam Raju and BNP joint secretary general and paddy sheaf symbol candidate Syed Emran Saleh Prince in Mymensingh-1 constituency.
Earlier, BNP’s Sohel Hossain Kaikobad in Kurigram-2 constituency, BNP’s Md. Saiful Islam, BNP’s Mohammad Emdadul Haque Bhorsa, BNP’s Maj. Gen. (retd.) Md. Sharif Uddin in Rajshahi-1 constituency, BNP’s candidate in Rajshahi DMD Ziaur, BNP’s candidate in Pabna-4 constituency Md. Habibur Rahman Habib, BNP’s Sansila Zebrin in Sherpur-1 constituency, Jamaat’s Md. Abdul Mannan in Dhaka-6 constituency, Jamaat’s Md. Enayet Ullah in Dhaka-7 constituency and Jamaat’s Md. Abdur Rahim Sarkar in Gaibandha-4 constituency filed the applications.
The court has accepted those applications for hearing. At the same time, it has asked the Election Commission to accept and preserve the ballots of those seats from the Returning Officers. As per Section 49 of the Representation of the People Ordinance, an Election Tribunal is constituted in the High Court to hear ‘election’ petitions against electoral irregularities. Justice Md. A single bench headed by Zakir Hossain is hearing these petitions.
