Hotel owner beaten with hammer in Kuakata for obstructing Yaba consumption
In Kuakata, Patuakhali, a residential hotel owner was allegedly beaten with an iron rod and hammer for preventing him from consuming Yaba. The incident took place in the Panjupara area of Kuakata Municipality on Sunday (March 1) evening.
The injured Lokman Mridha is the owner of the Kuakata Palace Hotel. According to local sources, Rakhine Nari Bazar oyster traders Russell Khan and Miraj used to consume Yaba regularly at his hotel. When they were obstructed, they carried out a planned attack. The attackers are said to be associated with the politics of the Jubo Dal in Kuakata.
It has been alleged that the attackers indiscriminately beat him with an iron rod and hammer and broke both his legs. As a result, four of his teeth fell out and he suffered serious injuries in various parts of his body. When the locals came forward shouting, the attackers fled. He was later rescued and taken to a 20-bed hospital in Kuakata.
The doctor on duty said that a person named Lokman Mridha was brought to the hospital in a seriously injured condition at around 7:30 pm yesterday. After primary treatment, his condition deteriorated and he was referred to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barisal. His condition is currently critical.
Sajeda Begum, the daughter of the injured person, said that Russell Khan and Miraj used to regularly go to my father’s hotel to consume yaba. When they were stopped, they attacked him with the intention of killing him. My father is now fighting for his life. Although attempts were made to contact the accused on mobile phones, they could not be contacted.
Kuakata Municipality Jubo Dal President Syed Faruk Hossain said that Miraj has already been expelled from the Jubo Dal and organizational action will be taken if another accused ward Jubo Dal member Russell Khan is found responsible. In this regard, Mahipur Police Station Inspector Mohabbat Khan said that no written complaint has been received in this incident yet. Legal action will be taken if a complaint is received.
