11 people arrested on charges of extortion in Burichong
Comilla DB and police have arrested 11 people in an extortion drive at Nimsa Raw Market in Burichong Upazila of Comilla. They were arrested from the highway adjacent to the market on Wednesday night (February 25). At that time, fake receipts and cash were recovered from them.
It was seen at the scene that the extortionists were extorting money from traders at Nimsa Raw Market in the name of collecting toll. At that time, checking the extortion receipts showed that they were extorting Tk 1700 per truck, Tk 1500 per leguna, Tk 1000 per small car and Tk 400 to 500 per auto-rickshaw from the traders.
Comilla District Superintendent of Police Anisuzzaman said that no extortion will be allowed in Comilla. The administration is firm on this issue. Burichang Police Station OC Lutfar Rahman said, “We started working after receiving complaints that extortion was being done openly in Nimsar Bazar in Comilla. Yesterday, 11 people were arrested from Nimsar Kacha Bazar in a joint operation. A case has been filed with the police station in this incident.”
