Courtroom vandalism, District Bar Association President jailed
Barisal District Bar Association President Advocate Sadiqur Rahman Lincoln has been arrested on charges of creating chaos in front of the judge during a session at the Barisal Additional Chief Metropolitan Court.
Today, Wednesday (February 25), law enforcement agencies arrested him from his chamber on the Barisal court premises at around 12:30 pm. After the arrest, when he was produced at the Additional Chief Metropolitan Court, the court judge SM Shariatullah ordered him to be sent to jail.
Confirming the matter, Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Manun ul Islam said, “Preparations are underway to take him from the court to jail.” Meanwhile, lawyers have started a protest on the court premises over the arrest of Barisal Association President Advocate Sadiqul Rahman Lincoln. A large number of RAB, police and army have been deployed on the court premises to avoid any kind of chaos.
Hafiz Ahmed Bablu, Assistant Public Prosecutor of the Barisal District Judge’s Court, said, “Where bail is being sought from the District Judge’s Court in explosive cases, banned Awami League leaders are being granted bail from the lower courts. Lawyers boycotted the court on Tuesday in this incident and started a protest. In continuation of this, the president of the Bar Association, Advocate Sadiqul Rahman Lincoln, has been arrested. We strongly condemn and protest this.” He said, “We demand the immediate removal of the Additional Chief Metropolitan Court judge.” He warned that their boycott program will continue until he is removed.”
