Brazil floods kill 30, disaster declared

At least 30 people have been reported dead in Brazil due to heavy rains and flooding. More than half a dozen are missing. Meanwhile, a disaster has been declared in the southeastern state. The incident took place in the state of Minas Gerais on Monday (February 23), according to a BBC report.
The country’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva expressed his “deepest condolences” to the families of the victims and those who lost their homes in a post on social media. He also said that a “state of disaster” has been declared in Juiz de Fora.
It is worth noting that videos shared on social media showed widespread destruction caused by the rain, with mud, water and vehicles and other debris sweeping across the city and several buildings collapsing.
