Armed group clashes with army in Bandarban, 1 killed
A terrorist named Hlamangnu Marma was killed in a gunfight between the army and the armed group Parbatya Chittagong Jana Sanghati Samiti (JSS-Mul) in Roangchhari upazila of Bandarban.
The incident took place at around 5 pm on Monday (February 23) in the Murung Bazar area of Taracha Union in Roangchhari upazila. A large number of weapons and ammunition, including submachine guns (SMGs), were recovered from the scene.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) and local sources, an army patrol team conducted a raid in the Murung Bazar area based on specific intelligence information that armed members of the JSS (Mul) group were illegally collecting extortion by intercepting vehicles. Sensing the situation, the JSS members opened fire on the army when they tried to escape. At that time, the army members also fired back and chased them.
The ISPR said that at one stage of the firing, the terrorists first tried to take shelter in a school building and later managed to escape from there. After the firing, an army patrol team searched the scene and rescued the bullet-injured Halmanganu Marma. He died when he was taken to the hospital.
A submachine gun (SMG), 143 rounds of SMG bullets, 14 rounds of pistol bullets, 5 rounds of blank bullets, two weapon magazines and other equipment were recovered from the scene. Meanwhile, panic has spread among the general public in the area including the incident since the incident.
In this regard, Rowangchhari Police Station OC M Saber Ahmed said that one person injured in the firing incident with the hilly armed group has been rescued. He died on the way to the hospital. Preparations are underway to take legal action in this incident.
