High Court orders filling of abandoned deep tube wells across the country
The High Court has ordered filling of abandoned deep tube wells across the country within three months to prevent accidents. The concerned including the local government secretary have been asked to implement this order. The High Court bench of Justice Ahmed Sohel and Justice Fatema Anwar gave this order today (February 23) on Monday (February 23). Advocate Mohammad Monir Uddin heard the writ petition in the court.
Earlier, a writ petition was filed in the High Court regarding the reports of deaths of children falling into abandoned deep tube wells in different parts of the country. Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Mohammad Monir Uddin filed this writ petition in public interest.
Later, the lawyer told reporters, “The death of child Jihad who fell into an abandoned deep tube well in Railway Colony, Shahjahanpur in 2014 shook the countrymen. Also, in December 2025, child Sajid died after falling into an abandoned deep tube well in Tanore, Rajshahi.” “Finally, on January 28 of this year, a child named Misbah died after falling into an abandoned deep tube well in Raozan Upazila of Chittagong. I filed a writ petition in the High Court linking these incidents. After hearing the writ, the court ordered to fill all the abandoned tube wells and submit a report within three months.”
