BSBRA appoints administrator, assumes responsibility

The government has appointed an administrator to the organization as the term of the executive committee of the Bangladesh Shipbreakers and Recyclers Association (BSBRA) has expired.
The term of the two-year executive committee of the organization for the fiscal years 2023-24 and 2024-25 ended on November 9, 2025. Although the elections were supposed to be completed within the stipulated time as per the rules, the elections were not held on time as the election board formed in the wake of various irregularities and complaints resigned. This created legal complications.
Later, an application was made to extend the term of the committee by six months as per the Trade Organizations Act, 2022, but the Ministry of Commerce did not approve it and decided to appoint an administrator to run the organization.
This decision was announced in a letter signed by Mohammad Rehan Uddin, Director General of Trade Organizations-2 Branch of the Ministry of Commerce. In view of this, Abu Safayat Mohammad Shahe Dul Islam, Secretary of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation and Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping, was appointed as the Administrator.
The newly appointed Administrator officially assumed office on February 17, 2026. Later, he participated in a courtesy call and exchange of views with the general members of the organization and the leaders of the former executive committee. Advisory Council member Kamal Uddin Ahmed, former acting president Md. Amjad Hossain Chowdhury, Senior Vice President Liaquat Ali Chowdhury and other leaders were present at the meeting.
Administrator Abu Safayat Mohammad Shahe Dul Islam said that considering the elections and special circumstances, he will properly fulfill the responsibilities assigned by the ministry in accordance with the law and rules. He sought the full cooperation of the members of the organization. He also said that he would hold a courtesy call with the leaders of the organization with the newly appointed ministers of the concerned ministries.
