What the new Finance Minister said about the implementation of the pay scale
In light of the report of the Ninth National Pay Commission, government officials and employees have been demanding the immediate publication and implementation of the Ninth Pay Scale Gazette. However, advisors have said that the new government will implement the pay scale. In this situation, Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has given a new message. The new Finance Minister told a media outlet on Wednesday (February 18), we need to see the recommendation of the pay scale. Without seeing it, I cannot say anything about it.
Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said, we need to see. What is the total amount. We need to see how much it is possible to implement. In the current financial situation, where Bangladesh’s tax revenue, tax GDP ratio is the worst in South Asia, even the worst. After seeing all this, we have to decide how much, when and how it will be implemented. We will examine. Earlier, in his address to the nation on February 9, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman had said that if BNP wins the elections and comes to power in the state, the pay scale will be announced and implemented in due time.
The National Pay Commission (Pay Commission), formed to formulate a new pay structure for government employees, submitted its report on January 21. It recommended the implementation of a partial pay structure from January 1 of this year. It was announced that it would be fully implemented from the first day of the 2026-27 fiscal year. The Pay Commission recommended increasing the minimum pay scale from Tk 8,250 to Tk 20,000 and the maximum pay scale from Tk 78,000 to Tk 1,60,000.
