Five houses gutted in Rangunia fire
Five houses were gutted in a massive fire in Najurpara area of Hoshnabad union in Rangunia upazila of Chittagong. The fire broke out on Tuesday (February 17) afternoon. Although the fire was brought under control, five families are now at risk of spending the day in the open air. According to locals, the fire started from the kitchen stove around noon. Due to the dry weather and houses made of flammable materials, the fire quickly spread to neighboring houses. Smoke and fire spread within moments.
Upon receiving the information, fire service and civil defense personnel quickly reached the spot and brought the fire under control with the help of locals. However, by then five houses had completely burnt down. Among the victims are a pucca house of Khorshed Alam and mud houses owned by Maulana Khorshed Alam, Shahar Ali, Ahmed Ali and Nurul Haque. The fire caused extensive damage as the family’s furniture, clothes and essential items were burnt.
“Before we knew it, the fire had burned everything down,” said one affected resident. “Now we are worried about where we will live.” Local representatives and residents have appealed for help for the affected families. Authorities are working to assess the extent of the damage and provide assistance in the wake of the fire.
