Former Ukrainian Energy Minister Arrested While Fleeing the Country

Former Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Halushenko has been arrested while fleeing the country. He was caught by security forces while crossing the border. Herman Halushenko left the ministry last November amid serious corruption allegations. He is accused of embezzling nearly $100 million from Ukraine’s energy sector. Several other senior officials in President Volodymyr Zelensky’s administration have also been named. Two Ukrainian energy ministers have resigned in the past over corruption scandals.
