3 women to join BNP cabinet
Today, Tuesday (February 17), the newly elected members of parliament led by Tarique Rahman took oath at the swearing-in hall of the National Assembly building at 10:40 am. The cabinet will be sworn in at the South Plaza of the National Assembly building in the afternoon. President Md. Shahabuddin will administer the oath. A 49-member cabinet is being formed.
Three women members of parliament will be inducted into the cabinet. They are Afroza Khanam Rita, Farzana Sharmin Putul and Shama Obaid. Rita will take oath as a full-fledged minister. On the other hand, Putul and Shama will be given the responsibility as state ministers.
Rita won the 13th National Assembly election from Manikganj-3 (Sadar and Saturia) constituency by a margin of more than one lakh votes over her nearest rival. She is the successor of Harunar Rashid Khan Munnu, a member of the BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Committee.
Farzana Sharmin Putul (41) has created history as the first woman and youngest MP from Natore-1 (Lalpur and Bagatipara) constituency. She is the only female candidate to win this election in Rajshahi division. Shama Obaid, the successor of influential former BNP Secretary General KM Obaidur Rahman, won from Faridpur-2 constituency. She renounced her US citizenship before the schedule was announced.
