Dipen wins by a large margin, Hanzala by a small margin

There are examples of winning by a margin of just 385 votes in the 13th parliamentary elections, as well as examples of winning by a margin of more than 150,000 votes. Among them, BNP candidate Dipen Dewan won by the largest margin of votes in the Rangamati Hill constituency. On the other hand, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis’s Sayed Uddin Ahmed Hanzala won by the smallest margin of votes. He was the candidate of the Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party electoral alliance in the Madaripur-1 constituency. BNP candidate Nadira Akhtar was defeated by him by a margin of just 385 votes.
2,028 candidates contested in 299 constituencies in this election. So far, the results of 297 constituencies have been declared. Of these, BNP and its allies won 212, Jamaat-e-Islami and its allies won 77, Islami Andolan Bangladesh won 1 and independent candidates won 7 seats. The results of two seats were not announced due to legal complications. Analysis of the results of the 13th National Parliament election held last Thursday showed that a total of four candidates won by a margin of more than 1,50,000 votes. Three of them are from BNP and one from Jamaat-e-Islami. They are – BNP candidate Md. Harun-or-Rashid in Rajbari-2 constituency, BNP candidate Md. Mostafizur Rahman Babul in Jamalpur-3 constituency and Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Muhammad Abdul Khalek in Satkhira-2 constituency.
In addition, 26 more candidates won by a margin of more than 1,00,000 votes. Among them, 24 are from BNP, 1 from Jamaat and 1 from the National Citizens Party (NCP), which is in Jamaat’s electoral alliance. Dipen Dewan defeated independent candidate Pahel Chakma by getting the highest number of votes in Rangamati. Their margin of votes was 1,70,322. Dipen Dewan got 2,1,544 votes under the paddy sheaf symbol. Pahel Chakma got 31,222 votes under the football symbol. The number of voters in this constituency is more than 5 lakh.
In Rajbari-2 constituency, BNP candidate Md. Harun-or-Rashid won by a margin of 1 lakh 69 thousand 955 votes. He got 2 lakh 37 thousand 254 votes. His nearest rival, Jamaat-backed 11-party electoral alliance candidate NCP Jamil Hijazi, got 67 thousand 299 votes. The number of voters in this constituency is more than 5 lakh 5.5 lakh. In Jamalpur-3 constituency, BNP candidate Md. Mostafizur Rahman Babul won by a margin of 1 lakh 62 thousand 53 votes. He got 2 lakh 6 thousand 214 votes. His nearest rival, Jamaat’s Md. Mujibur Rahman Azadi, got 44,161 votes. The number of voters in this constituency is more than 5,39,000.
In Satkhira-2 constituency, Jamaat candidate Muhammad Abdul Khalek won by a margin of 1,50,730 votes. He got 2,66,959 votes. His nearest rival BNP candidate Md. Abdur Rouf got 1,16,229 votes. The number of voters in this constituency is more than 5,35,000. On the other hand, in Madaripur-1 (Shibchar) constituency, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis’s Said Uddin Ahmed Hanzala got 64,909 votes under the rickshaw symbol. BNP’s Nadira Akhter (paddy sheaf) got 64,524 votes. The total number of voters in this constituency is more than 3,15,000.
Then, in Sirajganj-4 constituency, Jamaat candidate Md. Rafiqul Islam Khan won by the smallest margin of 594 votes. He got 1,61,872 votes. His nearest rival, BNP’s M Akbar Ali, got 1,61,278 votes. The number of voters in this constituency is more than 5.5 lakh. BNP’s Shahjahan Chowdhury won in Cox’s Bazar-4 constituency by a margin of 929 votes. He got 1,22,909 votes. His nearest rival was Jamaat candidate Noor Ahmed Anwari. He got 1,21,980 votes. The number of voters in this constituency is more than 4.5 lakh.
BNP’s Jasim Uddin Ahmed won in Chittagong-14 constituency by a margin of 1,026 votes. He got 76,493 votes. His nearest rival was Jamaat’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP)’s Omar Farooq. He got 75,467 votes. The number of voters in this constituency is more than 3,13,000. In addition, BNP’s Md. Abdul Mannan won in Brahmanbaria-5 constituency by a margin of 1,061 votes. He got 85,769 votes. His nearest rival was independent candidate Kazi Nazmul Hossain. He got 84,708 votes. There are about 3.75 lakh voters in this constituency.
