Nasiruddin’s request to EC to postpone Mirza Abbas’s oath-taking
National Citizens Party (NCP) leader Nasiruddin Patwary has requested to postpone Mirza Abbas’s oath-taking on behalf of the 11-party alliance, citing evidence of vote rigging, irregularities and illegal influence in Dhaka-8 constituency. NCP leader Kazi Fakhrul Islam submitted Nasiruddin Patwary’s application to the Chief Election Commissioner on Saturday (February 14) to the Election Commission on his behalf. In the application, Nasiruddin Patwary presented information on irregularities in 11 stages of 12 centers.
Nasiruddin Patwary said that Bangladesh Nationalist Party-BNP candidate Mirza Abbas Uddin Ahmed with the paddy ear symbol in Dhaka-8 constituency and his leaders, workers, agents and family members resorted to various election irregularities including vote rigging, influence peddling, withholding results and counting invalid votes.
In addition, Nasiruddin alleged that the Presiding Officer of the concerned center and the Returning Officer of the constituency were involved in electoral irregularities and the candidate with the paddy sheaf was declared the winner without declaring the final winner through vote rigging and irregularities. Against this decision, he brought the issue of rigging and irregularities to the attention of the Election Commission through this letter and urged to take action as per the law and rules.
The Dhaka-8 constituency has been in the discussion since the beginning of the 13th National Parliament election. In the election last Thursday (February 12), BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas won this constituency with the paddy sheaf symbol by getting 57,092 votes. His nearest rival, National Citizens Party (NCP) candidate Shapla got 51,396 votes with the Kali symbol.
