UK pledges to work closely with Bangladesh
The UK has pledged to work closely with Dhaka on other mutual priorities, including Bangladesh’s economic growth, migration, climate and security issues. A spokesperson for the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) said, “We hope the new government will continue the momentum of democratic, economic and social reforms.”
The spokesperson also said that the UK welcomed the parliamentary elections held in Bangladesh on February 12 and expressed satisfaction that the final results were achieved through a peaceful electoral process. According to the British government official, “This is an important step towards fulfilling Bangladesh’s goals and the aspirations of the people.”
Earlier, the UK congratulated BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman and his party on their landslide victory in the elections. At the same time, they congratulated the ordinary people of Bangladesh on entering a new chapter. In a message last Friday, the British High Commission in Dhaka said, “We look forward to working together to achieve our shared goals in the future, such as economic growth, migration, climate change and security.”
