Alleged clash between BNP and independent candidate supporters in Natore
A clash occurred between BNP and independent candidate supporters in Lalpur, Natore. Seven people from both sides were injured. The incident took place in Walia Bazar area of the upazila on Saturday (February 14) night. Locals said that due to an argument over an election issue, supporters of BNP’s winning candidate Farzana Sharmin Putul and supporters of independent candidate Taiful Islam Tipu got into a clash with sticks and country-made sticks. Seven people from both sides were injured in this.
At that time, two supporters of the independent candidate took shelter in a rice shop owned by one of their associates, Putul’s supporters stopped them and informed the police. The police came and rescued them. Later, the joint forces conducted a raid and recovered a Chinese axe, a country-made pistol and 5 rounds of bullets from the same rice shop. Lalpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mujibur Rahman said, the situation is currently under control. The two are in our custody. The matter will be investigated and legal action will be taken.
