BNP workers in Tangail-4 constituency attacked with ‘Joy Bangla’ slogan

In Tangail-4 (Kalihati) constituency, supporters of former minister Abdul Latif Siddique, an independent candidate (smiley symbol), attacked the workers of BNP candidate Lutfor Rahman Matin while they were chanting ‘Joy Bangla’ slogans with a paddy sheaf symbol. Five BNP leaders and activists were injured in this. The incident took place in Luhuria Bazar area of ​​Narandia Union in Kalihati Upazila at around 10:30 pm on Saturday (February 7).
The injured are paddy sheaf candidate Lutfor Rahman Matin, former joint general secretary of Narandia Union BNP and former UP member Alauddin Al Azad, Abdul Qaddus, Kazim Uddin, Kamal Hossain of Palima village and members of the election management committee of Nazrul Islam of Poshana village. Local BNP leader Alauddin Al Azad filed a complaint with Kalihati police station on Sunday (February 8), the information was confirmed by Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Toufiq.
Police and witnesses said that 10-12 BNP leaders and activists went to Luhuria Bazar last night to promote paddy sheaves. Then 20-25 leaders and activists of Awami League independent candidate former minister Abdul Latif Siddiqui attacked them with sharp weapons and sticks and shouted ‘Joy Bangla’ slogans. Five BNP leaders and activists were injured in this.
They were taken to Tangail Medical College Hospital last night, where Nazrul Islam was released after primary treatment, while the remaining four were admitted there. Md. Mehedi, the hospital’s emergency medical officer, said, ‘Abdul Qaddus is the most injured. He has been given 12 stitches on his head. He is being kept under observation.’ BNP leader Alauddin Al Azad said, ‘We have been attacked by the leadership of Babul Siddiqui and Ishaq Siddiqui, friends of fascist Hasina and followers of Latif Siddiqui. I want exemplary punishment for them.’ BNP candidate Lutfar Rahman Matin said, ‘We have informed the police about the matter. We want to conduct all election activities peacefully. We will take necessary action regarding the attack. We want a fair and normal election environment.’ Kalihati Police Station OC Md. Toufiq said, ‘Alauddin Al Azad has filed a complaint with the police station today regarding this incident. We are taking legal action.’
