55,000 Ukrainian soldiers killed on battlefield: Zelensky
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that about 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed on the battlefield. Zelensky gave the information in an interview with French television channel France 2 on Wednesday (February 4), according to a report by Turkish state media TRT World.
“The number of soldiers officially killed on the battlefield in Ukraine is 55,000, both professional and conscripted,” Zelensky said. “A huge number of people are still officially listed as missing,” he said. Meanwhile, a report by the US-based think-tank Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) said that the total number of military casualties and missing on both sides from the start of the war to the spring of 2026 could reach nearly two million.
On the other hand, according to CSIS, about 1.2 million Russian soldiers have been killed in this war, and in the case of Ukraine, the number is between 500,000 and 600,000. However, it is estimated that about 325,000 Russian soldiers have been killed in the almost 4 years since the war began. In addition, according to UN observers, the number of civilian deaths in Ukraine in 2025 was the highest since 2022. The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights reported that at least 2,500 civilians were killed and more than 12,000 injured in 2025 alone. However, the organization stated that the real number could be much higher.
