Verdict in Ashulia arson case on February 5

The verdict in the case of crimes against humanity against 16 people, including former MP Saiful Islam, for killing seven people, including six bodies, in Ashulia, Savar during the July-August movement, will be announced on February 5. A three-member judicial panel led by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, Chairman of the International Crimes Tribunal-2, set the date for the verdict today, Sunday (February 1).
Earlier, the case was adjourned for verdict on January 20 after the state and the accused presented their arguments. Former Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) of Dhaka District Abdullahil Kafi, former Additional Superintendent of Police (Savar Circle) of Dhaka District Police Shahidul Islam, Inspector Arafat Hossain, SI Malek, SI Arafat Uddin, ASI Kamrul Hasan, Abzal and Constable Mukul are in jail in this case. However, eight people, including former MP Saiful, are still absconding.
On August 21 last year, Tribunal-2 framed formal charges against 16 accused in this case and ordered the trial to begin. The charges state that six people were killed on August 5 and their bodies were burnt. However, one person was still alive at that time. Also, on August 4, the accused were charged with shooting dead a person in front of Ashulia police station.
