Nipah virus spread in India, Pakistan on alert

Nipah virus infection has spread in India. Meanwhile, the country’s Health Ministry has issued an alert in Pakistan. In this situation, it has been ordered to strengthen the screening of passengers at airports, seaports and land borders. Pakistani media Samaa TV reported this information in a report on Thursday (January 29). According to the Health Ministry, Nipah virus can be transmitted to humans from large fruit bats. For this reason, all passengers and transit passengers arriving in Pakistan will be tested at airports, ports and land borders.
The ministry said that if any passenger shows suspicious symptoms, he will be immediately taken to isolation. However, it was also informed that no confirmed patient infected with Nipah virus has been identified in Pakistan so far. The ministry also said that 5 cases of Nipah virus have been reported in the Indian state of West Bengal. Meanwhile, officials said, ‘The National Institute of Health has the necessary diagnostic facilities to detect Nipah virus.’
