Sarail BNP committee suspended for allegedly participating in Rumin Farhana’s campaign

The 71-member full committee of Shahjadpur Union BNP in Sarail Upazila has been suspended for allegedly participating in the election campaign for independent candidate Rumin Farhana against the BNP alliance candidate in Brahmanbaria-2 (two unions of Sarail-Ashuganj-Bijaynagar). This information was given in a press release signed by Upazila BNP office secretary ABM Salauddin on Wednesday (January 28) night.
Earlier, the Upazila BNP expelled six leaders, including the general secretary of Shahbazpur Union BNP in the same upazila, on charges of violating party discipline last Tuesday. Party and local sources said that since the start of the 13th National Parliament election, most of the leaders and activists of Shahjadpur Union BNP have been actively involved in the election campaign of independent candidate and former MP Barrister Rumin Farhana.
Confirming the matter, District BNP Vice President and Sarail Upazila BNP President Anisul Islam told us on Thursday, “Most of the members of that committee are not playing a satisfactory role for our party candidate. Many have broken party discipline and worked for a different candidate. The committee’s activities have been suspended as a warning to everyone. If they return to party discipline, then the issue of reinstating the committee in the future will be considered.” It is worth noting that Maulana Junaid Al Habib, Vice President of the Central Committee of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, is contesting as a BNP alliance candidate in Brahmanbaria-2 constituency. He is contesting with the date palm tree symbol.
