Locals said that there had been a long-standing dispute between Awami League leader Hamid Ali and the Russell group of Qurbanpur area over establishing dominance. As a result, Mofizul Islam Mahi, son of the deceased Darvesh Ali of Panchani area, and his associate Maidul Islam Zia raised their pistols and fired at them openly yesterday evening. No casualties were reported.
There is panic in the area due to the use of these firearms. When the two groups clashed in the evening, Mahi and Zia raised their weapons and fired, creating panic. It is learnt that the gunmen, Mahi and Zia, are members of Awami League leader Hamid’s group. Sonargaon Police Station OC Mohibullah said, “No one has complained about this yet. We are investigating the video.”
