12 houses burnt to ashes in horrific fire

A horrific fire has gutted 12 houses belonging to five families and property worth over Tk 30 lakh in Gharial Danga Union of Rajarhat Upazila of Kurigram. It is initially learnt that 12 houses belonging to five families including Hanif Ali and his three sons and various furniture worth over Tk 30 lakh including cash were burnt on Saturday evening (January 24).
Former UP member of Chargatisam village Shahidul Islam confirmed the incident and said that the smoke of the fire started at 7 pm yesterday. Before we knew it, the houses were engulfed in flames. Later, when the fire service was informed, the Rajarhat Fire Service arrived and quickly brought the fire under control.
No one can say for sure where the fire started, but many believe that it was caused by an electrical short circuit. In this regard, Rajarhat Upazila Executive Officer Al Imran said, “I am aware of the matter. Initially, the upazila administration has distributed some blankets and food to the affected families. We will visit the affected families tomorrow, Sunday, to inquire and provide further assistance from the government.”
