Candidates should not face Hadi-like consequences during election campaign: Akhtar
National Citizens Party (NCP) member secretary Akhtar Hossain has called on the government and the Election Commission to create an environment where no candidate should face Hadi-like consequences during election campaign. He said this while talking to reporters after accepting the Shapla Kali symbol as a candidate of the 10-party alliance from the Rangpur District Commissioner’s conference room on Wednesday (January 21) afternoon.
Akhtar said, “It is very sad that a RAB officer was shot dead by terrorists while trying to recover weapons. There have been casualties in Mirpur. Each of these situations indicates the deterioration of the law and order situation. We will urge the Election Commission and the government to ensure that none of our candidates should face Hadi-like consequences during government campaign. No ordinary voter should face Hadi-like consequences.”
Akhtar said, “We have noticed that in the past there have been many cases of torture on common people. Nowadays, there is a case-by-case business going on. Many are trading cases to get support for their own parties. We expect a complete solution from the government to all these issues. So that there are no illegal weapons in any way. There is no conflict in any way, no voter candidates and workers are harmed in any way. The government and the Election Commission must take strict action in this regard.
We want to secure the July Charter. We think that the people will say no to those who are campaigning not to vote in this election. We want to secure every part of our expected new Bangladesh through a yes vote in the referendum.”
