Death toll in Pakistan shopping mall fire rises to 61

The death toll in a massive fire at the Gul Plaza shopping mall in Karachi, Pakistan, has risen to 61. More bodies were recovered from the scene on Wednesday (January 21). The Dawn reported that about 30 bodies were recovered from a burnt-out shop.
The shop is said to be a grocery store. It is believed that about fifty bodies are still under the rubble.
A fire broke out at the Gul Plaza shopping mall on Jinnah Road in Karachi on Saturday (January 17) night. It quickly spread throughout the building. Many people, including buyers and sellers, were trapped inside. The fire was brought under control after about 24 hours. It is alleged that the situation took a terrible turn due to lack of prompt action after the fire. Initial investigations revealed that the fire started due to an electrical fault.
