BNP to vote ‘yes’ in referendum
BNP will vote ‘yes’ in referendum. Advisor to the party chairman and spokesperson of the party’s Central National Election Management Committee Dr. Mahdi Amin said, when our parliamentary candidates came to Dhaka in the 13th election, we told all of them that during the election campaign, we would take a ‘yes’ stance in the referendum. In the July Charter, that is, the BNP’s position in the National Consensus Commission, we had some dissenting notes and in the mass uprising, we saw changes in the basic state structure. The government management will be transparent and accountable, which is what BNP did first. The 31-point reforms that we have contain the most fundamental basis. Therefore, we are saying, we will take a ‘yes’ stance in the referendum.
Mahdi Amin said these things at a press conference at the BNP’s Central Election Management Office in Gulshan, the capital, on Wednesday (January 21) morning. He said, ‘The dissenting notes… In democracy, there will be different opinions and different paths… This is normal. We will discuss these in parliament. Overall, our position in favor of yes in the referendum – we have informed everyone in the party.’
At the press conference, BNP Chairman’s Advisor Dr. Mahdi Amin said that the leaders of the party’s organs and affiliates have made ‘incomparable and unprecedented contributions’ to the anti-fascist movement and mass uprising for a long time. In gratitude and recognition of their sacrifice, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has decided that the sacrificed and senior leaders of various organs and affiliates will accompany him on every visit.
As part of this initiative, some young and grassroots leaders like Abdul Qadir Bhuiyan Jewel, Abdul Monayem Munna, Mamun Hasan, Kazi Rawnkul Islam Shraban, Yasin Ferdous Murad and Rakibul Islam Rakib will accompany Tarique Rahman on his visit to Sylhet.
Mahdi Amin said that the party’s election campaign will officially start with the BNP Chairman’s visit to Sylhet as per the announced schedule. As per the schedule, Tarique Rahman is scheduled to arrive in Sylhet by plane at 8:15 pm tonight. He will pay homage to Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) at 8:15 pm tonight and will join an election rally at Sylhet Alia Madrasa ground tomorrow (January 22) morning. Referring to the upcoming parliamentary elections to be held on February 12, Mahdi Amin said that this election is a “very important chapter” for Bangladesh. We believe that every political party will ensure maximum tolerance and coexistence by emphasizing a positive, fair and acceptable election campaign. We call on all political parties to fully comply with the election code of conduct so that the much-awaited elections reflect the expectations of the people. Through our collective responsibility and democratic practice, this election can set a unique example, InshaAllah. He said, we would also like to inform that an election theme song will be unveiled by the BNP at the beginning of the election campaign. At 12:01 tonight, i.e. at the beginning of January 22, the theme song will be inaugurated by Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Member Secretary of the Central Election Steering Committee and Senior Joint Secretary General of BNP, at the Lakeshore Hotel in Dhaka. The Chief Coordinator of the Central Election Steering Committee, Mr. Ismail Zabiullah, leaders of the Election Steering Committee and BNP, as well as people from different classes and professions will be present. I wish you all the kind presence.
The party’s Election Steering Committee members Mohammad Zakaria, Zubair Babu, Mostaqur Rahman and Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan were present at the press conference.
