Country’s economic condition from ICU to cabin: Finance Advisor
Interim government’s Finance Ministry Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed said, ‘The country’s current economic condition is not fragile. Reserves have increased from 18 billion to 32 billion. In one and a half years of inclusive government, the country’s economic condition has shifted from ICU to cabin.’
He said these things in response to questions from journalists after inaugurating the referendum campaign and voter motivation program and voters’ car campaign at Hasan Ali Government High School ground in Chandpur on Monday (January 19) afternoon.
He said, ‘The economic condition had fallen into an abyss due to widespread corruption and money laundering. We are trying to lift it from there. The current government has brought the country’s economy back from the brink of the abyss in just one and a half years.’
Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed said, ‘Any government has to make reforms for judicial independence, speedy trial implementation and law and order. We have made some reforms. And to implement these, I urge the people to vote yes in the referendum.’
In response to a question about whether there is any fear about the vote, he said, ‘Why won’t there be a vote? Now there is no more political pressure. No specific party will be able to bring money. If you all cooperate, there will be a fair vote. We want good and dedicated people to come. People who care about the people should come.’
After the speech, government officials including the advisor visited the referendum stalls in the field and spoke to the voters present. Earlier, a view-sharing meeting was held at 10 am by the district administration at the Sadar Upazila Auditorium with the participation of various government departments and people from all walks of life in Chandpur to promote the referendum and motivate the voters. The Finance Advisor spoke as the chief guest in the meeting.
The meeting was presided over by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md. Nazmul Islam Sarkar. The program was moderated by Sadar Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) SMN Jamiul Hikmar and delivered speeches by National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md. Abdur Rahman Khan and Chandpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Md. Rabiul Hasan.
