2 killed in mob lynching on suspicion of cow theft

Two people were killed in a mob lynching on suspicion of cow theft in Singair upazila of Manikganj. The incident took place on Sunday (January 18) night in Imannagar village of Joymantap union of the upazila. The deceased were identified as Majnu (35), son of Tota Mia of Dashani village of the upazila, and Deen Islam (23), son of Bandu Mia of Chayani village.
Police and local sources said that a case has been filed against the two on the charge of entering the house of Shakil of Imannagar village last night with the intention of stealing cows. After learning about the matter, family members and local villagers chased them and arrested them. Later, an agitated mob beat them up and seriously injured them.
On receiving information, the police went to the spot, rescued the two injured and took them to Singair Upazila Health Complex. After receiving primary treatment there, they were brought to Dhaka, where they died while undergoing treatment at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital at 6 am today, Monday.
Singair Police Station OC Mazharul Islam said that the police station has multiple theft cases against the deceased. The body will be handed over to the family after the autopsy. Legal action is being taken after identifying those involved in the incident.
