Show cause notice to Rumin Farhana for violating code of conduct

Brahmanbaria Deputy Commissioner and District Returning Officer Sharmin Akhter Jahan has issued a show cause notice to Barrister Rumin Farhana, an independent candidate for Brahmanbaria-2 (Sarail and Ashuganj) constituency and BNP leader, on charges of threatening the Executive Magistrate, violating the code of conduct and obstructing judicial work.
The order was issued on Sunday (January 18) in a notice signed by District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Sharmin Akhter Jahan. It states that Rumin Farhana will have to appear at the Deputy Commissioner’s office by January 22 and give a written explanation for this unprecedented behavior. If she fails to give an explanation within the stipulated time, strict legal action will be taken against her.

The notice further states that on the afternoon of January 17, Rumin Farhana set up a huge stage in Islamabad village of Noagaon Union in Sarail Upazila of Brahmanbaria and held an election rally in the presence of 400/500 people. There, he gave a political speech through a microphone. Which is a violation of the 2025 Code of Conduct.
At that time, the Executive Magistrate who was running the mobile court ordered the rally to stop. In this, independent candidate Rumin Farhana behaved arrogantly and disrespectfully with the Executive Magistrate and made various threats. At one point, he showed his thumb and said, ‘If I don’t tell you, you won’t be able to get out of here, you are on your head. Today I have shown my finger that I will not listen in the future.’ At that time, his other workers also behaved aggressively.
The notice states that creating a crowd in this way and obstructing judicial work and threatening the Executive Magistrate is a clear violation of the election code of conduct. The incident has already spread across various electronic and print media, including social media, which has created an adverse reaction in the public mind.
