When independent candidate for Brahmanbaria-2 (two unions of Sarail-Ashuganj-Bijaynagar) constituency Barrister Rumin Farhana went to hold a courtyard meeting, she was stopped by Executive Magistrate Shahria Hasan Khan. At that time, Rumin Farhana got into a verbal argument with the Executive Magistrate.
The incident took place in the Islamabad area of Noagaon Union of Sarail Upazila on Saturday (January 17) afternoon. The video of the incident has already gone viral on social media. In the viral video, Rumin Farhana got angry when Executive Magistrate Shahria Hasan Khan went to discuss the issue of violation of the code of conduct.
Addressing the magistrate, she said, “I am warning you for the last time, I do not want to hear such things again. If you can, stop. Today I am saying politely, I will not do this again.” At this time, Rumin Farhana also said, others show you their thumbs, look at the matter. They do nothing about them.
This independent candidate from Brahmanbaria-2 constituency can be heard speaking in even harsher language. At one point, he told the magistrate, if I do not say Rumin, then you will not be able to leave here, sir. Remember. The people you are listening to now, during Sheikh Hasina’s tenure, they used to stay under the bed with their ears. I am Rumin Farhana, I do not belong to any party.
In the wake of this incident, Executive Magistrate Shahria Hasan Khan said, they have organized the rally in violation of the election rules. Since the matter is against the rules, we went there and asked them not to hold the rally. The organizer of the rally, Md. Jewel, has been fined Tk 40,000. I have informed the Additional District Magistrate about this.
