Jamaat Ameer and NCP’s Nahid Islam meet
National Citizens Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam met Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman. They discussed the upcoming elections and the overall picture of the political situation.
Nahid Islam met him at the Jamaat Ameer’s office in the capital’s Bashundhara residential area on Sunday (January 11) afternoon. Later, he published details and pictures of the meeting in a Facebook post. The matter was also confirmed in a message sent by the NCP.
The NCP is participating in the upcoming elections as part of the 11-party electoral agreement led by Jamaat. The meeting was held amid discussions that the NCP may get concessions in 30 seats in the agreement.
NCP sources said that Nahid Islam did not meet Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman to discuss the seat agreement; rather, he discussed overall political issues. On behalf of Jamaat, the seat-sharing talks are being led by the party’s Naye Ameer Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher. In a meeting with the Ameer yesterday, Nahid discussed the overall election strategy, including the electoral environment, the administration’s leaning towards one party. Sources said that Jamaat wants to keep 190 seats for itself and give the remaining seats to other parties. 40 seats may be given to the Islamic Movement, 30 to the NCP, 15 to the Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis, 7 to the Khilafat Majlis, 7 to the LDP, three to the AB Party and two to the BDP.
